2011

  • January: Westwood opens office in Scottsdale, Arizona; Dan Cleland, ASLA to lead.
  • ETG, a division of Westwood renamed to Westwood/ETG
  • Aaron Tippie promoted to Energy Sector leader
  • Bryan Powell appointed to lead Dallas, TX office
  • Jason McCarty appointed to lead Eden Prairie, MN office
  • Robert Gonzalez appointed to lead Portland, OR office
  • Mark Baumbach hired as VP, Corporate Development

2010

  • Renewable System Design group formed
  • September 1: Westwood acquires Westwood Renewables
  • Jason McCarty advances to Land Sector lead
  • June 1: CEO, Dwight Jelle retires. President, Paul Greenhagen assumes CEO role
  • Growth: Loveland, CO office opens and managed by Michael Lang. Bryan P. Powell manages Dallas, TX office.
  • Scott Gyllen announced Vice President
  • January 1st: Paul Greenhagen becomes President, Dwight Jelle continues on as CEO

2009

  • Growth: Portland, OR; Dallas and Midland, TX offices open
  • Rick Haglund manages Portland, OR office

2008

  • 2008: A record revenue year for Westwood!
  • Significant growth in national Wind, Solar, Transmission, and Renewables
  • Growth: Acquisition of ETG, Inc. further diversifies Westwood services to include aerial mapping while enhancing survey capabilities. Mike McCullough manages ETG office in Kansas.
  • Siting and Land Rights service group launched
  • Bruce Grivna retires. Tim Ramerth named Brainerd Office Manager
  • Q1/Q2 revenue reports hint at record year for Westwood
  • Dennis Marhula, Westwood CEO, retires after 16 years as President

2007

  • Paul Greenhagen becomes Vice President, Energy Sector leader
  • Westwood ends the year profitable despite economic downswing
  • Energy group grows by leaps and bounds

2006

  • Westwood going strong, continues to diversify in Land and Energy
  • Growth: Westwood merges with Peterson Environmental Consulting (PEC)
  • Marty Weber retires. Scott Gyllen named St. Cloud Office Manager
  • Dale Beckmann announced Vice President

2005

  • Westwood Corporate outgrows 7599 Anagram and moves to 7699 Anagram
  • Dale Beckmann, Miles Lindberg, Steve Pflipsen join Westwood
  • Dwight Jelle becomes president
  • Dennis remains as CEO
  • Eden Prairie, St. Cloud and Brainerd offices experience significant growth.

2004

  • Westwood offers non-traditional mapping, scanning and 3D modeling services using the 3D Laser Scanner
  • Westwood has 20 sets of Trimble 5000 series GPS systems that have ranges of 15-20 miles with the use of cell phones

2003

  • Survey crews are provided portable computers to access field work onsite
  • Westwood begins offering Design Visualization services
  • www.westwoodps.com goes live

2002

  • Westwood secures national projects while maintaining local developer relationships

2001

  • Growth: In January, Westwood purchases Central Minnesota Surveying, Inc. in Brainerd (owned by Bruce Grivna)

2000

  • 102 Employees

Late 1990s

  • Westwood drops all municipal work to focus on land development

1999

  • Growth: Westwood buys Wellen Surveying in St. Cloud, MN

1998

  • First true Westwood computer network

1997

  • 74 Employees
  • Westwood uses “fast static” Trimble 4000 series GPS equipment for the first time on Wind Energy projects.

1996

  • Westwood moves to 7599 Anagram Drive, Eden Prairie

1993

  • Computer systems upgraded to 386 25MHz processors, 8MB RAM and nearly a 100MB hard drive storage per PC  

1992 – 1998

  • Westwood survey moves to a Global Positioning System (GPS) while the technology is still in development

1992

  • Dennis returns from New Zealand and becomes President
  • Recovery from the recession begins

1991

  • Ed Bather serves as President
  • Ron Peterson leaves Westwood (to return in 2006)
  • Rob Bouta leads Environmental Services  

1990

  • Westwood closes Brooklyn Park completely
  • Dwight brings on Bruce Miller to assist in municipal and highway project efforts
  • Westwood is involved in substantial commercial projects  

1989

  • 53 Employees
  • Westwood commits to computerized engineering
  • Dwight Jelle is hired to lead municipal and highway efforts at Westwood
  • Dwight is the first to use AutoCAD at Westwood
  • Allan Klugman is hired to lead the Traffic efforts
  • Westwood acquires Buffalo, MN, surveying firm
  • Wetland Protection Act creates a need for Environmental Services. Ron Peterson is hired.

1988

  • Fran Hagen, Sr., retires
  • Westwood Planning & Engineering and Westwood Survey Company are officially renamed to Westwood Professional Services, Inc.
  • Westwood acquires Bather, Belrose & Boje bringing Bruce Boje, Mike Belrose and Cindie Flaig on for Traffic & Transportation services
  • Beginning of a recession - Housing market struggles

1987

  • Dennis Marhula moves to New Zealand

1986

  • 29 Employees
  • Westwood opens “Westwood Survey Company” in Brooklyn Park
  • Marty Weber, Paul Greenhagen and Fran Hagen, II, lead the BP office

1985

  • Growth: Westwood acquires Erkkila & Associates
  • Tim Erkkila leads planning department

Mid 1980s

  • Westwood residential land development business is booming in Eden Prairie, Minnetonka and Plymouth
  • Westwood projects appear on nearly every planning commission meeting for several years
  • 1st major commercial client – Ryan Companies 

1981

  • Fran Hagen, II, joins Westwood as a full-time P.E.

1980

  • 1st Westwood computer
  • Westwood begins doing Traffic studies

1978

  • Westwood’s first major national homebuilder client – Tim Eller/Centex Homes
  • Dennis Marhula joins Westwood

1977

  • Greg Kopischke is hired to lead Westwood’s Planning efforts

1974

  • Approximately 8 employees
  • Landmark is renamed to Westwood Planning & Engineering Company

1972

  • 4 Employees
  • Fran Hagen, Sr., begins Landmark Planning & Engineering
